Yes, they were. Like any other Empire. British people are sheltered against any unpleasant facts from the days of the British Empire. This is due to the fact that the British have had an international media dictatorship for over a hundred years. The British created artificial famine holocausts in India that exceeded the Jewish Holocaust in terms of number of deaths. Even during World War 2, Britain engineerd a famine holocaust in the Benghal region that killed between 3 and 7 million Indians. In total, these late Victorian Holocausts are estimated to have killed 30 – 40 million Indians. After WOrld War 2, the British engineered the Suez Crisis and the war in Egypt. Also in the 1950’s, when Kenya revolted to gain independence, the British crushed the uprising with typical ruthlessness, killing some 180 000 Kenyans, many of them in concentration camps. No, nothing and no one is “Evil”. The British empire of olde was simply ruthless, ethnocentric, somewhat religiously fanatical, and totally lacking in respect for the sovereignty, cultures and even lives of indigenous peoples. It wasn’t consciously “Evil”, it’s not as though Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the British government spent their days lounging around in parlors, entertaining themselves by ordering British troops to go and fetch the heads of of exotic foreign people on pikes. They just… Didn’t notice, care, or care to notice all that much if/when people acting on their orders chopped of foreigners’ body parts and stuck them on pikes, just as long as their empire kept on growing more wealthy and powerful.
