V: sister! I do not say that the trees do not have life. There may be countless number of jeev called souls inhabiting in a tree but they do not possess the medium of mind to experience the joys and sorrows. There may not be differences in the character of souls. But due to his action (Karma) the souls are classified as abhimani jeev and anushayi jeev. The abhimani jeev possess the body and remains mobile. The abhimani jeev has a body of its own and remains proud of it. This body experiences pain when put to violence. Hence it is violence to kill them for consumption and therefore wrong. On the other hand anushayi jeev has no body and mind. It remains in deep slumber called sushupthavastha. It has neither pain nor joy. Trees may be their resting places, but possesses no body. Further, trees grow as per the chemical process pre-designed by god. The twigs and branches that are cut start growing again. The flowers wither away but bloom again. Fruits keep on appearing again and again. Twig
