That’s frequently the case when you have 2 or more jobs. It’s not at all hard to be underwithheld especially if one paid significanly more than the other did. Look at the bright side though. You did NOT make a huge interest free loan to the government — that’s ALL that a tax refund represents — so you had the use of YOUR money ALL year. And at $279 you are well below the area where you’d have to pay any penalties or interest as long as you pay it by April 15th. Personally, I’d say, “Well done! You beat the government at their own game!” (I HATE getting refunds! I’d MUCH rather pay the IRS when I file and keep as much money in my pocket all year as the law allows me to!
