Should I have Pec on or off when using PHD? Will it cause problems?
A. One line of thought is Turn your PEC off and the auto-guiding program will not be “fighting” the PEC corrections. The second line of thought is that if you have PEC ON – then the auto-guiding program won’t have to work as hard – making very minor corrections instead of possible “large” ones. With that said, they all forgot one thing. Back many years ago before we had computers to do the guiding for us we had to do it manually. I had a system that had the PEC feature and it was promoted that PEC would help reduce the workload when guiding. You would make corrections on top of the PEC corrections that where being made without my assistance. In my opinion, I would leave it on. A level tripod, and a good polar/drift alignment will be the best thing you can do to start. PHD does a GREAT job either way, get your scope level and aligned, and you’re good to go.
