Should British Copper coins be scrapped?

No. This will be used as an excuse for retailers to push up prices beyond the value of the scrapped coins. Be less selfish and a little more thoughtful and considerate. Keep your coins until you see a charity box and pop them in. The population of the UK in 2007 was about 60.975million. If one penny was given by each person that is £609750. If that happened every day it would raise £4,268,250 per week and £221,949,000 per year. Not to be sneezed at!!

I agree the coins can be irritating. What bugs me is the 99p price point. Are they relevant in today’s economy, probably not, but I wouldn’t like to see them scrapped. I collect all my coppers, and 5 pences, stick them in a jar. Over the last 9 months, I got £40, that I paid into my bank account.
