The CHECK TABLE is not carried out using server tasks, rather directly by the user task on the B* tree. To terminate a TABLE CHECK, you must terminate the corresponding user task (I/O WAIT). To ensure that you do not inadvertently terminate the wrong user task in the task manager, make sure no other applications are active.
