My rabbit doesn like to chew, except for the odd nibble of carpet and drapes. How can I get her interested in wooden chew toys?
Spray things you DON’T want chewed with “Bitter Apple” spray. Spay and neuter the rabbit as they chew much less then. Keep the rabbit from being bored. Bored intelligent rabbits chew things and get into trouble. It may need another spayed/neutered companion. Make sure they have a hiding place, like a burrow or a nest box to hide in so they can safely chew their toys there. Never let a rabbit chew rugs and carpeting. It’s very bad for them and can cause stomach upsets. Give them some Petromalt or Laxatone afterward to help get it through their system safely.
If she’s suddenly lost interest in chewing, there could be a problem with her teeth. Get her checked by a rabbit vet asap! If she’s never been interested in chewing, then perhaps it’s just her personality. If I were you I would just consider myself one of the luckiest rabbit-owners on the planet and let this one slide. If she’s not interested in chewing, that’s a GOOD thing as far as your furnishings and other property are concerned. I, too, have just such a rabbit. He’s just perfect and never poops or pees outside his litterbox. An angel straight from the Rabbit God he is. But the other five make up for it, and I’m always wishing I didn’t have to buy so many toys, spend so much time getting them interested in them, only to have them lose interest once they’ve effectively destroyed said toys and require replacements, thus starting the whole ordeal over again. Consider yourself fortunate and be happy you don’t have a destructive rabbit!
