Original and Salt & Vinegar flavours do not contain Mono Sodium Glutamate (MSG ) However, formulations do change so please check ingredients listing on pack before purchase. Glutamate is a widely occurring protein building block (amino acid) representing about 20% of the protein we consume. It is present in meat, fish, cheese, beans and seeds but is also present in milk and tomatoes. Soya beans contain 6.5g/100g, parmesan cheese 8.1g, beef 4.2g and herring 3.2g. Sodium glutamate is a stabilised form of glutamate that adds flavour intensity. It is noteworthy that the levels of MSG typically used in our crisps is are around 0.5g per 100g, i.e. far lower than the glutamate levels found in many foods.
