Is there a “green” light bulb for use in an outdoor, motion-sensor light?
Standard dimmers also do not get along with CFL lamps, but there is usually not a problem with photocell controls, as long as they are not the screw-into-the-socket style, which reduce the voltage to the bulb in order to make an incandescent bulb last longer. If you want to make your motion sensing fixture more energy efficient, you will want to shop for the whole fixture. There are motion sensing fixtures available that are fitted for fluorescent lamps. I’d give you a few part numbers, but I can’t find my Heath-Zenith (the most common retail brand) catalog at the moment. I’ll see what I can pull up on an amazon search.
