Is there a difference between offline and online modes?
Each mode has its own advantages and disadvantages which depend on the nature of your project. One importnat point though is that as paper based surveys are tangible, they are usually considered of higher value than their online counterparts. The participants may feel obliged to complete a survey in order not to ‘waste’ the resources used by the researcher, for example for printing or postage. This is not the case with emails which do not cost anything and can be easily deleted.
