Orlistat (or the over-the-counter equivalent Alli) is an enzyme that works in your digestive tract and keeps a certain amount of the fat you eat from breaking down. It works well in conjuction with a low-fat healthy diet. It can have nasty side effects if misused. For example, taking orlistat and eating a lot of fatty fast food will put so much oil into your stools that stuff could very well just “slide out”. Your bowel movements will have some oil left floating on top of the water (almost as if you poured a little bit of Cooking Oil right into the toilet. A small amount of this is fine – it’s coming out your rear instead of getting stored in your fat cells. But, as aforementioned, if you overdo the fat while you take it, you’re asking for some very embarassing side effects. As for the stomach cramps, I would assume that anything that affects your digestive system could cause cramps. Research online or talk to your doctor on that one.
