Is learning HTML even worth it anymore?

We still have a web, right? Almost every page on the web is written in HTML. Even if you want to adjust your MySpace layout, you still have to be able to write CSS, and know how it applies to HTML. And that’s just using a pre-built website. If you want to design your own website, you had better learn HTML, or be prepared to pay someone else to do your work for you. I’m not entirely sure why you think that knowledge of HTML is obsolete. Are you asking if HTML is going to go entirely extinct as the web switches to XHTML? It might, but that is a long way down the road. If you want to build a website now, modify a website that someone is providing for you, or write a user stylesheet or user script to tweak your browser, you had best know HTML. You can use a WYSIWYG editor for simple tasks, but the web content that they produce is clunky and inelegant at best, and will not display properly at worst.
