Is it cruel to crate a dog?
Remember dogs were originally ‘cave dwellers’. Dogs do not consider being in a crate or in another controlled environments (such as a kennel) punishment. Actually, to the contrary, they appreciate a place all their own, an area they consider safe. This is why you often see puppies sleeping under a table or a chair. Dogs, especially puppies should never be left for extended periods of time in crates or kennels unsupervised. Crate training is worth the effort because your dog will take ownership of the crate and be happy to use it. It will become his/her own home within your home or his home away from home in your vehicle or hotel room.
