is gyrus TURP superior to open prostatectomy?
Tan A.1, Snow R.M.2 1Alfred Hospital, Bays Hospital & Frankston Hospital, Victoria, Australia, department of urology, Mornington, Australia, 2Alfred Hospital,, department of urology, Malvern, Australia Introduction & Objectives: Symptomatic BPH larger than 100ml in volume remains a challenge to the treating urologist. Open prostatectomy poses quite a few challenges. This prospective single arm study examines the feasibility of the TURP with Gyrus Plasma Kinetic Vapourtrope (Version1.5) as a alternative. Material & Methods: Consecutive patients presenting with symptomatic BPH with prostate ultrasound volume measuring more than 100ml were offered the choice of open prostatectomy versus Gyrus TURP. All Gyrus TURPS had an SPC inserted to facilitate good irrigant flow at low pressure.. Results: 50 patients whose mean age was 75yo with mean prostate volume of 168ml were recruited. Mean AUA score was 30 with average flow rate at 3ml/hr. Mean Residual volume was 850cc. 12 patents presented wit
