Is Green Power Good for Wind Energy?
“Green Power” is much in demand by people who support wind energy and is supported by renewable energy advocates and developers as a way to speed the start-up of new renewable and wind energy projects. Green Power projects in several states, including California, Colorado, Michigan, and Texas, are already resulting in the development of new renewable power plants. However, there are a number of issues associated with Green Power that are of concern.Nancy Rader, a leading expert on utility regulatory policy, discusses these issues in her 1997 paper, Fundamental Requirements for an Effective Green Market. In addition, AWEA has issued a paper entitled Principles of Green Marketing, which was developed by its members in an effort to “foster a credible market in environmentally-preferable electric services that results in meaningful changes in the electric system as a whole.
