But Bill Singer, partner of the Stark & Stark law firm in New York, thought that it might be better just leaving Citi for the dogs. Singer argued that resuscitating the firm was just prolonging the end of a dead company. “Does the industry view Citi as a terminal patient on life support–and will that make it even harder to attract top execs to what is viewed as an organization whose plug may be pulled?” Singer asked. “Sometimes personnel changes can make a difference, and sometimes you’re just adding more passengers and crew to a sinking ship. I think Citi is more the latter.” Depending on what numbers Citigroup reports on Friday, Singer may be right. But if the bank shows some resilience, don’t count the stock out yet.
