Is camellia oil an Essential Oil?
No, camellia oil is not an Essential Oil. It’s a Carrier Oil which is a vegetable or base oil. Essential Oils are distilled plant extracts/essences that deliver the essence of the plant’s aroma. They’re used for aromatherapy to enhance physical or mental well being. A large quantity of plants are required to produce the oil, e.g. 2000kg of rose petals to make 1kg of rose oil. Essential Oils are very concentrated and must be diluted with a Carrier Oil for direct application on the skin. They are sensitive to ultra violet light and so must be packaged in a dark amber or cobalt glass bottle. Essential Oils are often lumped together with Perfume Oils or Fragrant Oils which are adulterated with added ingredients or synthetic. These oils have minimal active ingredients and do not have the therapeutic properties of natural, pure Essential Oils. Examples of Essential Oils are bergamot, geranium, grapefruit, jasmine, lavender, lemon, lemongrass, orange, peppermint, rosemary, sage, sandalwood, y
