Is a multi-story house more expensive than a “ranch”?
On a “per square foot” basis, there is not much difference. Whether you opt for a one-story or multi-story house should be determined by such things as: size and topography of the building site, do I want to negotiate stairs (what about in 20 years)?, there may be more privacy in a multi-story house. Exterior maintenance may be somewhat more difficult in a multi-story house. Heating and cooling costs may be less in a multi-story house.
