In my image the voxel size (in mm) varies across the different dimensions. Can MRIcro stretch the image so that voxels are proportionally the correct size?

Yes. A drop-down box in the slice viewer allows you to select how MRIcro displays anisotropic images. There are three modes: ‘square’, ‘stretch’ and ‘smooth’. The square mode shows all voxels as square, regardless of the voxel size. The stretch mode proportionally stretches the coronal, sagittal and transverse slices (but not the projection views). Smooth mode proportionally stretches the image using a bilinear smoothing algorithm. MRIcro uses the size values in the header information panel to determine the relative size of voxels. The figure below shows a 1x4mm image shown using each mode.
