Except for graduates of Tisch, BMI and Theatre Building Chicago’s musical theatre workshops, all writers need to enter ANMT through the Introductory Workshop. But that’s not a judgment about the quality of your work. That our first year is called “Introductory” does not make it a basic “musical theatre for dummies” course, Our first year members are often highly experienced, professional writers with piles and piles of experience and even productions and awards. The fact is that some foundations which we lay in our first year curriculum are just not obtainable in any other form. We have a unique approach towards collaboration which you’d miss if you jumped into “Intermediate” status. We have an approach toward receiving AND giving feedback which isn’t something a writer will have picked up; it’s something which you have to experience and practice. We also have a very specific vocabulary about the craft, the process, and the mechanics of writing for the musical theatre which writers are
