In the New Zealand Room, we hold an extensive collection of local newspapers, starting with the Bay of Plenty Times of 4 September 1872. The online newspaper index gives access to significant articles from the Bay of Plenty Times and other western Bay of Plenty newspapers. At present this database relates to the period after 2000. The electronic database may be accessed from the information stations in the library or online from your home PC. For the period 1872 to 1920 refer to the card catalogue in the New Zealand Room as well as the Maori card index and local folders. Indexing relates mainly to the western Bay of Plenty iwi. Events concerning other iwi who have interests in the western Bay of Plenty region may also be indexed.
