I Read About The “Green Card Lottery” – What Is It?
Each year, the Department of State runs what has become known as the Green Card Lottery. Culled from countries that have had the fewest number of applications over the past several years, this program attempts to promote a diverse ethnic mix among immigrants coming to the United States. Not all countries are eligible for this lottery, and the number of applicants usually far exceeds the number of visas granted. There are a number of scams that claim they can expedite the process – or put you at the top of the list. Bluntly put – they’re all bogus. Don’t waste your time or your money on them. The successful applicants are randomly picked by computer – hence the “lottery” aspect the program. Currently 50,000 spots are open per year for this diversity visa program.
