How Would a Fish Describe Its Underwater World?
Have students listen to water music. Class makes a list of things a fish might see in its underwater world. Teacher connects this list with the title of NOUN. Class makes a list of words a fish might use to describe its world. Teacher connects this list with the title of ADJECTIVE. Teacher teaches the art of casting a fishing pole. Students are put in groups and one at a time they practice casting a fishing pole. The activity is done in the gym with a washer on end of the line instead of a hook. (See casting class) Teacher asks the students how they cast their fishing poles and prompts them to come up with words like: softly, hard, rough, quickly, fast, slowly, gently, cautiously, gracefully, etc, The class continues to come up with a list of words. Teacher connects these types of words to ADVERB. Give each student typed list of nouns, adjectives, and adverbs. Students write a descriptive, realistic fiction response to the question, How would a fish describe its underwater world? using
