HOW WILL THE INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS BE PAID FOR?

The reason that a special district is being proposed is so property taxes can be used to pay for most of the construction. The Task Force will be asking the voters to approve a 5 mill levy which will generate approximately $4 million per year in taxes. In addition to the mill levy there will also be a relatively small tap fee when homes are connected to the water system, the Service Plan includes a tap fee of $4,000 (compared to about $5,060 in Durango and Bayfield). Tap fees are expected to generate about $872,000 per year which will also be used for construction.
