How will the existing hospital building be used?
When the replacement hospital opens in 2007, the existing hospital will continue to be a resource for the community. The cardiac rehabilitation facility in the building’s atrium will remain in place. The system’s expanded Occupational Medicine Department will occupy space now housing the Emergency Department. Kishwaukee Emergency Medical Services, the training provider for emergency medical technicians in the area, will occupy space in the building with ample room for classrooms and offices. Community wellness services will move from its current location into the existing hospital as well. This relocation will give patients easier access to services and parking. KHS is holding discussions regarding leased space with other healthcare services and academic units in the area. Clearly, the funds invested over the years in this building will not be lost.
