How will applicants make a FOIP request?
The Act requires an applicant to make a request in writing. The request can be made in a letter or in any other written form. A request can also be made on the official request for access to information form. A $25.00 application fee is required when requesting access to general information. There is no application fee when requesting access to one’s own personal information. Provision is made in the Act for the acceptance of oral requests from those who are disabled, do not have the literacy capabilities or are otherwise unable to exercise their rights under regular procedures. In such cases, the request should be recorded in written form and sent to the applicant. They may have to use this document if they wish to appeal to the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
