How to polyurethane a floor?

Yes! If you just stained the floor, it will need additional protection. Apply a coat of polyurethane with a brush (a roller with a short nap would probably work too). You may need to lightly sand the floor as the sealer makes the grain of the wood stand up. Apply at least another coat (total of 2) and maybe even 3 coats if the area gets a lot of traffic. Later on when wear develops, you can lightly sand the floor again and apply additional coats as needed.
