How safe is finding an apartment on craigslist?
With Craigslist You get the good and the bad. There are scams their and you can report them on the upper right portion of the page. That does sound suspicious. However there are nice apartments available and many private landlords/real estate agents are taking advantage of this popular site. I’ve rented 2 places I found on craigslist. Both have been very good experiences. Just keep you eye out and stick to you gut instincts.
OF course, it’s suspicious. Ignore them. I have rented to new tenants using Craigslist and found some good tenants, while also receiving that type of spam. Report it to cragislist and make it harder for those jerks to bother us with their scams. Personally, I wouldn’t rent to anyone who is not in country and who won’t view apartment in person. It’s a real clue when they don’t even ask for photos!!! And when they don’t want to fill out paperwork BEFORE their in country. They’ll have a bigger check than is required and ask you to refund the difference, and after two weeks, you bank reports it is a bad check and freezes your account.
