As long as you adhere to the simple principles that underpin Performance Review there is quite a bit of scope. Performance Review isn’t about paperwork (or at least it shouldn’t be!) The aim of the system is to ensure that, on an annual basis, each staff member has the opportunity to discuss their job performance, strengths and weaknesses, development needs, and how they can contribute to the continuing success of the university in the coming year. How we present and document the process of having honest and constructive discussions about our work is secondary to the importance of ensuring that we have those discussions in the first place. Several departments have successfully developed their own versions and we encourage other departments wishing to modify their documentation to look at the approaches that they have taken.
