How Many People Will Switch Carriers?
A survey by The Management Network Group Inc. in June indicated 39 million current wireless subscribers would switch if they got a better offer, and nearly 9 million said they would switch carriers the day after number portability is implemented. While the 39 million count probably seems high, keep in mind that in a normal year about 30% of subscribers change their carrier, which is about 40 million people. The unknown, of course, is what incremental percentage will switch who weren’t already planning on changing, because they can bring their number.
