How many credits are needed for an A.A. or A.S. degree?
An Associate in Arts (A.A.) or Associate in Science (A.S.) degree requires 64 credit hours, distributed among the general education core curriculum (left inside page of Student Planning Worksheet, page 2) and elective credits of your choosing. These are usually determined by your major, your school of choice to transfer and/or your personal interest. You may elect to complete the degree (there are advantages) or to complete only the general education core curriculum (also known as the Illinois Articulation Initiative Core (IAI)) which makes transfer of the general education credits smoother as a group/unit.
