How long should it take to house break a puppy?

No “should” – it’s different for every dog. Sometimes it’s takes a long time (i’ve heard people having trouble up to a year from when they got the dog), others not so long. My dog was done with “accidents” at the end of the first month we got her – but that was because we took her out OFTEN and didn’t keep her inside (or in a crate) longer than we thought she could physically hold it. If your dog is having accidents, it wouldn’t hurt to evaluate what LED to the accident. Ask yourself when the dog went out last, what was the dog doing, where were you, etc.
