Once our laboratory has received the biological sample(s), the following steps are performed to generate a DNA profile: • Screening- to determine if blood, semen or saliva is present (Optional if requested) • Sampling of the evidentiary specimen • Extraction of the DNA • DNA quantitation • PCR amplification • Electrophoresis • Data Analysis • Sampling of the reference specimen • Extraction of the DNA • DNA quantitation • PCR amplification • Electrophoresis • Data Analysis • Statistical Analysis & Report Generation • Case Review Each of these processes can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to perform. Once the DNA profile from the evidence has been generated the reference sample is subjected to the same steps to obtain a DNA profile. All data generated must be analyzed by two independent analysts and reviewed by two additional qualified staff.
