It takes about 2 hours for the procedure appointment. Most of our time is spent numbing the procedure area, creating a color for your face palette and drawing it onto the procedure area. The time spent implanting pigment can be between 30 to 60 minutes.

Due to the time involved in the processing of the tissue and the possibility that more than one stage of removal may be required, the procedure can take two to four hours. Since much of the time will be spent in the patient lounge, it’s suggested patients bring something to read or an activity to pass the time. Surgery takes place in the early morning or early afternoon.

Patients are asked to come to the Gamma Knife Center early in the morning. The head frame is typically placed shortly after 6 am. The actual time of radiation varies depending on the size and location of the area to be treated. Most patients go home before Noon on the day of the procedure.
