The PEY (Professional Experience Year) program at the downtown campus of UofT serves primarily students in Engineering and Computer Science. It is directed toward students who have completed their third year of a four-year program and are interested in completing a 12- to 16-month internship with a single organization. All students are eligible to apply. Only a certain number of students succeed in being matched with an employer. Following the internship, the student returns to the University to complete his/her fourth year. The Co-op Program is a limited entry program that prescreens students on the basis of academic success and career promise. Co-op work terms are of shorter duration – i.e., typically 4 months or 8 months. Once students commence the first work term (after 3 or 4 full-time terms of study), they alternate work terms with study terms.
