How is the District addressing substance abuse?
Substance abuse is a challenge for our community. The District is committed to continuing its efforts in addressing this problem by helping families keep their children drug and alcohol free. Results from the PA Youth Survey, data on youth drug and alcohol use collected every other year, are reviewed and discussed with the community in public presentations, parent meetings, Board committee meetings and all school facilities. A number of effective practices have been instituted in the past three years. Some examples include a revision to the substance abuse policy to include features of effective practices as recommended by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. In the secondary schools, random canine searches are conducted to deter student possession of illicit drugs at school.
