How is the distance measured for eligibility?
The Transportation Center has a car equipped with a certified device that measures to the foot. This is more accurate than the odometer on a car that measures to the tenth of a mile. This car is driven from the school to each address in question by the most direct route. Addresses measured beyond 18,480 feet are eligible for transportation to high school. Addresses beyond 7,920 feet are eligible for transportation to elementary and middle school. A record of these measurements is kept on a map at the Transportation Center. There are locations where one house is eligible and the house next door is not eligible.
