How is limestone formed?

0

Most of the rocks we see every day are made from many different minerals. But limestone, chalk , and marble are made from one mineral it’s called Calcite. Limestone can be found in many parts of the world, and you can see little fossils in it because it is very soft, and fragile. Some caves, and buildings are made out limestone. Limestone is mostly gray. But scientists have found some that are black, and white. picture from www.discoveryschool.

Limestone is the fossilized remains of millions of ancient limes. There used to be loads of lime trees in the past, and all the fruit that fell off of them (the animals didn’t eat limes much, because they taste nasty) got fossilized and over millions of years since got all compressed and turned into ‘limestone’.
