How is data from the RFID tags read?
RFID tags are read by RFID interrogators, which are often referred to as readers. In passive RFID systems, these devices have one or more antennas connected to them which emit a radio signal. This signal powers the RFID tags, which send their data back to the RFID reader. The readers gather this data and send it on to software to be processed. Active RFID systems work in a similar matter, however, the power source on board the active RFID tag powers the transmission of data back to the reader instead of the initial radio signal.
