How is CANADA is patriarchal society?
Well, Canada has traditionally been a patriarchal society (a society run by men). If you look at the group of Founding Fathers, you will see that they were all men. Some of their wives were active in the community, however women were not allowed to enter politics as it was not seen as respectable. Nowadays, this patriarchal view remains. If you look at the House of Commons, male politicians continue to outnumber the women. The women who are indeed involved in politics have been placed in roles that deal with “traditional woman’s issues” like health, environment, childcare, etc. Also, if you look at the statistics of men vs. women in university, you will see that the numbers are almost equal. However, the number of men vs. women who get jobs after university is quite different. And when it comes to the high-paying jobs, the CEOs of companies continue to be dominated by men. Women still can’t seem to break this glass ceiling they are stuck under in Canada. More awareness of these issues
