The Research Councils base academic research time on 7.5 hours a day, 37.5 hours a week, 44 weeks a year, making a total of 1650 working hours a year. A full explanation of how to estimate academic time is provided on the University’s Full Economic Costing website. It should be noted that time to supervise research students should be excluded from the estimate of academic time.
