How does Yestermorrow integrate sustainable building and living into its campus and everyday practices?

0

Yestermorrow’s campus in Warren, VT is a demonstration site for a wide variety of sustainable building techniques including super insulation, daylighting, timber framing, straw bale building, permaculture design, natural paints and plasters, use of salvaged and recycled materials and retrofitting of an existing building. Through our day-to-day operations we demonstrate sustainable living by growing our own organic food to serve to students, composting and recycling our waste, purchasing supplies with high recycled content, utilizing nontoxic cleaning supplies, and minimizing energy use through high efficiency heating and fluorescent lighting fixtures. What are the benefits to combining design and building courses within the curriculum? By teaching architectural principles and construction skills as a seamless, integrated process, we believe people can build their homes better. The integrated design/build process empowers people to move with confidence between conceptualization (design)
