How does the QSG (electronic gear change) work?
D2) The QSG is a device created for racing applications, enabling one to shift up the box very quickly, without using the clutch and, above all, without shutting down the throttle. Its operation is very straightforward. It is based on a sensor able to detect the movement of the change lever when the rider decides to shift up. The sensor sends a signal to the QSG control unit, which orders the engine control unit to immediately “cut” the ignition (shut electricity to spark plugs) for a few fractions of a second. During this very short period of time, the engine suspends power delivery, allowing gear changing. This device cuts power delivery for a shorter time than would be required for the rider to close and then open the throttle again. This translates in a slight advantage at top acceleration. Shifting down is done in the traditional way.
