How does the growth of a tree vary near lakes?
Trees do tend to grow toward the available light. Trees packed together compete for height. A tree with a ‘lake side’ would tend to spread branches, and might even lean, in that direction. If you’re talking about growth rings, I’d suggest that the ‘lake’ tree would have a more reliable water supply, and thus show less variation for dry years.
