How does the Game Genie work?
The Game Genie basically monitors the address bus of the cartridge port and modifies the data bus of the cartridge port if it encounters an address which it is supposed to intercept. In layman’s terms, it replaces certain data values with others in a game depending on a certain proscribed code. This allows it to make temporary changes to the game’s appearance to the NES CPU, without permanently changing the game itself. The Game Genie is unlike other cheat devices which may freeze certain areas in RAM to a fixed value; the Genie instead works on ROM. • HHow long will the battery in my NES game last? Nintendo said about 5 years; however, I still have a Zelda cartridge from 1987 which still has its original battery and saves games just fine.
