How does the DNS work?
When someone types in a domain name into a web browser their Internet Service Provider (ISP) DNS server looks into its cache for an IP address associated with that domain name. If the DNS server does not have a cached entry it sends a DNS lookup query (to the Name Servers set for the domain) which if successful returns the IP associated with the domain name back to the ISP and consequently to the customer’s computer. Once the domain is resolved to an IP the browser can access the web site.
