How does the average rating of an album work?
It is important to realize that every user’s individual rating of an album is weighted and factors into the overall average differently. There are several factors taken into account for determining your ratings’ weight. These include the number of albums you’ve rated, the diversity of your ratings, the number of reviews written, and your activity on the site. For example, in the following situations your weight will be lower: • You have rated only 1 album • You have written no reviews • You haven’t visited the site for 60 days • All your ratings are 4.5 or 5 stars If you weight happens to be lower, your rating will not factor into the average rating as much as users with more weight. Keep in mind these safeguards are in place to maintain the integrity of the site’s ratings and weed out inactive and illegitimate users. It is not here to discriminate, and most users who rate albums regularly and write a few reviews will have normal weight. Admins and moderators do not have special rating
