How does EIPS determine the rates for student transportation fees?

Alberta Education provides funding for student transportation based on a student’s eligibility to receive free transportation to their designated school. EIPS sets Payride fees based on reasonableness of costs to parents, not on actual costs or funding rates incurred as this would make the cost of Payride services prohibitive. EIPS charges transportation fees for ineligible students and noontime Kindergarten service in Sherwood Park. EIPS charges students for transportation services to attend a School of Choice (not the student’s designated school). Each of the services for which fees are charged are not funded by Alberta Education but do increase costs for EIPS. Therefore, a fee is charged to offset a portion of the additional costs.
