How does DVD pricing compare to CD?
The creation of a DVD programs can be more expensive. The costs involve the MPEG-2 encoding of the video program, authoring of the DVD specific features, creation of a DVD-R for testing and evaluation, mastering of the DVD stamper, pressing of the discs, printing and packaging. The initial steps to create a DVD can cost anywhere from several hundred dollars to several thousands dollars. It really depends on the types of features needed and the complexity of the menu creation and authoring. Video transferred directly to DVD with no menu is fairly inexpensive. The cost should decline as demand increases and manufacturing costs are spread across a larger market.
