There are two different types of chemicals you can use to remove dye. One is chlorine bleach. Don’t use this on your socks unless they are 100% cotton or hemp, because bleach will destroy synthetic fibers such as nylon. There is no point in burning holes in your socks. The other kind of chemical that you can use to remove dye is based on sulfur. The easiest chemical in this group to use is Rit Color Remover. Rit dyes are not very good on cotton, but Rit Color Remover is an excellent product. It’s easy to find in a fabric store or even a pharmacy, and it is gentler to fabric than bleach.
